Dying Twice
Jul. 17th, 2009 09:40 pmTitle: Dying Twice
Anime fanfiction: Hellsing/FMA AU crossover
Main character: Envy and Alucard
Rating: PG13
Summary: When the Gate opens up for no reason, Envy pays a visit to an old friend.
The Gate opened up in front of him and caught Envy unwares. There was no alchemist around, no one to open the Gate now looming in front of him with its greedy black arms reaching out for him in hungry abandon. As flat footed as he was at the moment, Envy didn’t have enough time to react as the Gate’s residents pulled him into and past the threshold.
Almost a decade had past since he’d last been thrown through the Gate and into the other world where the vampire Alucard existed. Before it had always been Dante who had thrown Envy through as a form of punishment for whatever indiscretion she felt the Sin had committed. In each of those journeys he had met the vampire, traveled with him, fought with him, and in the end it had been the vampire that gave Envy the last bit of needed strength to kill the bitch who had tormented him since the day he’d been created.
But who? But how? How in the hell had be been dragged back here again? Envy didn’t know the answer to those questions, but he damn well wanted them.
The Gate opened up and dropped onto the cold and wet ground. When he looked up, he wasn’t prepared for the sight before him. The Hellsing mansion was in total ruin. Its once majestic architecture reduced to burned rubble and so much debris on the ground. From the looks of the decay, the destruction was a few years old at least. He frowned in confusion and even some pangs of worry for the one creature he called a true friend.
Envy pushed up from the ground beneath him and started picking over the mansion rubble, looking for some kind of clue. The clue he got wasn’t what he expected. Emotion hit him like a battering ram, black and chaotic in his mind. He’d never felt anything like it in his life and in truth he was hard pressed to place the normal labels on what was being beat into his brain.
On a hunch, he followed the sensation even though it sent chills down his spine. Somewhere in the black spiral of emotional chaos was something that could be termed as grief, but who’s grief? His answer came both as shock and unease.
Over the crest of the hill and on a flat area of land covered by a few sparse trees was a figure kneeling on the ground. Envy wouldn’t ever mistake Alucard’s silhouette for anyone elses. He knew the vampire’s form all too well.
Envy walked up behind him and was about to ask what on earth had happened and why Alucard was here. However, he saw the headstone that Alucard knelt before and read the name upon it: Integra Hellsing. Before he could speak, or even really understand what he was seeing, Alucard spoke.
“They came with missles and guns when Integra sent the Police Girl and I on a mission in Scotland. We found out, but too late to get back and stop it. When we arrived there was nothing left, no one alive. I spent years hunting down everyone of them, killing anyone who knew or had contact with anyone involved. Women, children, even the family dog on occasion. With each one of those wretches I drank from, I saw more of Integra’s last moments. She fought like a hell cat. It took the combined power of four vampires to take her down, and even when they broke her body, they couldn’t break her spirit. She laughed at them and promised retribution.” His smile grew thin as his story continued.
“Bleeding and dying she never gave up. She spat in their faces. They thought when she died that I would die too, but fools never understand the details, little Sin. So I killed them. Yet it feels no better.”
Envy didn’t know what to say to the vampire who was grieving in front of him. In fact it scared him a little to see Alucard this somber, this lifeless. He looked as if he lived only because his body could not die. Suddenly how or why he had ended up here didn’t matter to Envy. All he knew is that he had a chance to give Alucard what the vampire had given him, a new start at life.
“Kill me, but this time, come with me.” Alucard looked at Envy and blinked. The Sin’s words took some time to fully make sense to him. This time there wasn’t any grin or smile. Alucard just reached up and broke Envy’s neck. Although this time there was no Hellsing binds to hold Alucard to this world. He held onto Envy’s body and fell through the Gate with him.
